3 kms from Malaucène in the southern French department of the Vaucluse, a magnificent sprawling Provençal farm property built in 1783, in a secluded location yes close to all amenities, south-facing and protected from the Mistral wind, peaceful, L'Eau Salée is the perfect location to recharge one's batteries in the healthy, clean air of the foothills of the Mont Ventoux.

Those seeking a more invigorating break couldn't wish for more in an area of Provence renowned for its countryside, ideal for cyclists and ramblers. The area even has its own ski resort just 25 minutes' drive away up the Mont Ventoux, the Mont Serein village. Last season it was open non-stop from January to April. During the summer sporting and open air activities including free-wheel carting on the grassy ski runs, horse and pony trekking, grass skiing, a tree platform course and Tyrolean traversing, mountain biking, as well as less strenuous hiking around the many marked paths.

Only ten minutes to the beautiful town of Vaison-la-Romaine, a picturesque mix of historical features from its elevated mediaeval cité, to its famous Roman bridge and amphitheatre, where concerts are held, featuring anything from ballet to opera to rock bands, through the summer. Close to Vaison wine lovers can wander the Côte du Rhône and Ventoux itineraries along the Route des Vins, sampling the excellent vintages of famous vineyards in Rasteau, Vacqueyras, Gigondas, Séguret, Châteauneuf du Pape, Beaumes de Venise.

Vaison's Tuesday market attracts people from far and wide, with eclectic stalls of all manner of Provençal products taking over most of the centre of town.

The Provençal hinterland is an an artist's paradise, with galleries, potteries and artisanal workshops to be found throughout this part of the Vaucluse.

L'Eau Salée's second gîte gets its name from the giant elephant-shaped children's playhouse in its private gardens. With 5 bedrooms, plus 3 lounge / sitting rooms equipped with convertible bed settees and a spare bed, up to 12 guests can be lodged. It is completely separate from the 'Tilleul' gîte, with independent gardens and entrances. It comprises rooms in the original building dating back to 1783 with 'cool' rooms dug into the rock, ideal for those Provençal summers. Other rooms are located in the modern extension, a former restaurant built in 1968. The private gardens and terraces are located to the east and south of the gîte.

As well as the equipped ground floor kitchen, there is a kitchenette on the first floor. It is quite possible for 2 families to share this gîte and be relatively independent of each other, with its separate entrances, 2 kitchens, 3 lounge / sitting rooms.

One of two similarly sized gîtes comprising 'L'Eau Salée', both entirely private with independent entrances and gardens, the 'Tilleul' gîte sleeps up to a maximum of ten people. Even easier to get to us from the UK, with the EuroStar rail link to Avignon in operation again this coming summer! Avignon is 30 minutes away by car.

BY TRAIN

Board Eurostar in London early one Saturday morning in the height of summer. Sweep down through a southeast England slowly waking up, through the Channel Tunnel and then it’s onwards – breezing the length of France towards Provence at 186mph. By early afternoon you’re in Avignon.

From July to September, Eurostar runs a weekly direct service to Avignon from St. Pancras International or Ashford International.

Easy access by road thanks to the Autoroute du Soleil [A7], this 18th century mas is the perfect location for a peaceful holiday, to explore the glorious sun-drenched Provençal countryside, as well as its famous markets; wines, ancient historical sites and hill villages. The entire property comprising the "Tilleul" and "Eléphant" gîtes, sleeping up to 22 people, with *exclusive use of the 16m x 6m pool*

High season 2200 € (June 4th to July 9th, August 27th to September 10th) per week.
